SSMON, Stability Monitoring

The Slope Monitoring system, SSMON is an integrated GIS system for managing data collected for the monitoring of stability of any set of measure points. The data can be collected for Slope Monitoring Points (SMPs) (northing, easting and elevation changes with time), for extensometer data (distance with time data), piezometer (water levels with time) and drainage wells (well discharge with time). Of course if the application is the monitoring of a structure than only the SMP data is applicable. Data is collected from automatic monitoring systems, from hand held data loggers or from straight ASCII files. Data import routines manage virtually any format of data and the upload routines carry out basic quality control of the data at upload. The data is loaded into an Access database which can be linked to both AutoCAD and Excel for graphic and charted analysis.

The data can be represented spatially on any AutoCAD drawing using a series of plotting and analysis routines available in a standard AutoCAD interface. Data is managed by dividing it up by zone (any regular or irregular area, independent or overlapping), by profile or by nomenclature. Data can be plotted or interrogated by zone or profile and profiles can be automatically plotted over pit wall profiles with instrument data projected onto the profiles. Time based queries of any of the data is possible from within AutoCAD without opening the database or requiring the Access software.

Individual point data can be plotted on an AutoCAD drawing as horizontal actual movement, horizontal vector movement or horizontal vector acceleration. An Excel module is available to extract data from the database for plotting instrument data such as hydrographs, discharge plots or vertical movement or other time based charts. The system has built in charting set up for partial or accumulated movement, from start of monitoring, since last monitoring event, or between any two dates.

The Excel module allows the data to be extracted by any number of Access based queries as well as the set of predefined queries. The data can be extracted into any Excel spreadsheet for further analysis and charting.
