Generalised co-ordinate and database connectivity
CGSS has utilised the AutoCAD/database connectivity capability to generate a library of connectivity tools based on point data. These capabilities can be considered a point based GIS library and is used for applications where data can be associated with a specific point in space. Data that has been mapped in this fashion includes:
- Geotechnical data such as rock quality, fault or fracture data and structural definition data
- Rehabilitation data such as nature of the rehabilitation, contractor, date of application, date of maintenance review
- Hydrochemistry data as displayed in the WemGIS™ product detailed within this website
- Water, Exploration and servitude Rights data associated with wellpoints and bore holes
The Database libraries cater for user generation of table structures for recognised data types , for example, those data fields that will require temporal plotting (variation vs. time), those requiring spatial plotting (contouring and grid generation) and those requiring schedule generation (tables on the CAD drawing, or data exported to other applications)
The CAD libraries allow for the database structure to be browsed from within the CAD environment, data to be extracted from the database and represented on the CAD drawing as time plots, contoured spatial plots or data schedules and labelling. The libraries are not off the shelf products but are built into a bespoke products following the clientsĂ specification.
Integrated into these libraries is the off the shelf Co-ordinate management utility known as Co-ordinator. Co-ordinator allows users to import co-ordinates from any ASCII file into AutoCAD in any number of user specified formats (polylines, block insertions, points etc.) Co-ordinator will also allow the user to extract ASCII co-ordinates from a variety of AutoCAD objects and export them to user specified ASCII file formats, or list the extracted co-ordinates on the drawing, or export the co-ordinates to an Excel spreadsheet. Extracted co-ordinate points can be highlighted on the AutoCAD drawing and the points cross referenced to the ASCII table on the AutoCAD drawing.
